Brick Breaker Game
Since you’ve made it to this Brick Breaker website, I think it’s safe to assume you know what Brick Breaker is. In case you haven’t played before, here’s a little background on the game.
Similar to solitaire or freecell in it’s addictive qualities, Brick Breaker has become possibly the most popular free game for Blackberry users. Anyone can learn how to play the game within a few seconds.
BrickBreaker Rules
Players have a paddle at the bottom of the screen that moves left to right, and the object is to hit a ball up at the bricks. If you miss the ball, you lose a life. Players start with 3 lives. Pay attention to certain bricks that tend to drop ‘Life’ capsules. You’ll often notice the same bricks producing free lives.
Some bricks only need to be hit once, others multiple times. Each time you hit a brick, you get 10 points.
Capsules (Power Ups)
When you hit certain bricks, various capsules fall down that you can move your paddle onto. When you do, you can get free lives, a longer paddle, slow down the speed of the ball, and various other things. When you get a capsule, you also get 50 points – the same value as 5 bricks. So, it’s a good idea to get as many of them as you can.
The capsule that new players should stay away from is ‘Flip’. Flip will make your paddle move in the opposite direction, making it much more difficult until you have practice with it. Also, ‘Wrap’ can make things a bit harder as well. Instead of being able to slam your paddle against the side of a wall, the wrap will make your paddle go through the wall, and out the other side. So, if you’ve gotten a Wrap capsule and slam the paddle to the left, it wont stop at the left wall. Instead it will go through it and come out the right side. Wrap isn’t as bad as Flip, and the 50 points make it worth getting from time to time – but only when your brick layout is good and the ball speed is slow enough.
The capsules are:
Life: Gain one life with each capsule.
Long: Widens your paddle. This is a great power up, and is especially good when the ball speed is high.
Laser: Allows you to shoot bricks using lasers, 10 points per hit.
Gun: Shoot three bullets, get 50 points for each brick. Guns can also shoot through metal bricks that the ball can’t break. This opens up certain areas of the game, making it easier to get past Brick Breaker levels. Always pay attention to where the gun is best used.
Bomb: The ball becomes a bomb and destroys the brick it hits, no matter how many times it would need to be hit by the ball. It also damages nearby bricks. Careful though, when the bomb goes off it shakes the board. If the bomb hits a low hanging brick it can be hard to adjust to.
Multi: Puts four balls into play. When you get the Multi capsule it will send the balls upward, away from your paddle. This gives you time to adjust to where the balls are. Multi is especially useful on levels where there are bricks that are hard to get to.
Catch: Allows you to catch the ball, aim it where you want it and fire at will.
Slow: Slows down the speed of the ball.
Wrap: Gives the paddle the ability to go through the left and right side walls. This can make it more difficult, especially when the ball is going fast.
Flip: This is my devil. When you get the Flip, the paddle will move in the opposite direction. While it can be learned, it’s not a natural feeling and most players avoid the Flip. It’s not worth losing a life for the 50 points you’ll gain by getting it.
Brick Breaker Levels
There are 34 levels on Brick Breaker Blackberry games. However, when you beat all 34 levels the game is not over – you have not concurred BrickBreaker. Instead of ending, the game reverts back to level one. Although I have yet to do it, I hear that once you finish the 34 levels the second time through, the game gets much easier. My personal best is only 26,430, which seemed huge when I got it. Later I went online to find scores well over 1 million and didn’t feel so good about myself, lol.
There are a couple tricky levels on BrickBreaker, where if you can get through those without losing too many lives, getting through the rest of the game is much easier. So, get as many lives as you can, and don’t give any away if you can help it.
