If you’re trying to figure out how to beat the Brick Breaker game, follow these tips. While players can use most of these to improve their high scores, the idea is to learn how to break the game. That’s what we’re talking about here. These Brick Breaker tips aren’t in any specific order, just random things that I’ve found to be important.

Brick Breaker Game Tip #1

Don’t worry about points. Don’t lose lives because you’re too focused on power-ups and shooting the gun. Aside from the Life capsule, players should only be going after capsules when they can do it safely. If the ball is getting close to the paddle, don’t go chasing down a Slow or Laser capsule at the last second. It’s too easy to screw it up and lose a life.

Brick Breaker Game Tip #2

Hit bricks from the top-down. When you have bricks that are very low, close to the paddle, look to hit those bricks from the top, not from the bottom. Of course when you hit them from the bottom, the ball bounces directly back to you very quickly, making it harder to get into position to hit the ball. Instead, look to hit angles off the walls and top to hit the brick from the top, making the ball bounce back up. Although it might take more time to clear a level, the idea is to clear levels without losing lives. Take your time and save lives.

Brick Breaker Game Tip #3

After some experience, you’ll notice that certain levels give out more lives than others. When you get to these Brick Breaker levels, be careful not to lose lives when you’re down to just a few final bricks. It’s not uncommon to hit the second last brick for example, to see a life capsule come down, then inadvertently hit the final brick before you collect the life. This is especially important when you’re using the laser. Fire the laser less often, exposing each brick and giving yourself time to collect a life in case it comes down.

Brick Breaker Game Tip #4

Be careful with the laser. New players tend to overuse the laser, trying to blast through each level as fast as possible. The problem is that it’s easy to get distracted shooting everything in sight, and missing the ball. Use the laser when you can do it safely, without the risk of missing the ball. This is especially important when the ball is down low, underneath a row of bricks. The ball comes down faster, making the laser a bigger distraction.

Brick Breaker Game Tip #5

Use the Gun when it’s appropriate. There are levels where using the Gun can actually cause more problems than good. For example, if you have three metal bricks on top of you, shooting the middle brick will cause funny, angled bounces that are hard to react to quick enough. Instead, shoot metal bricks on ends, or even skip it if it’ll cause funny bounces. In some cases, the metal bricks keep the ball up above. When you remove them, the ball comes down and needs to be hit more often. Use the gun only when it’s appropriate.

If you play a lot of Brick Breaker as I do, and if you’ve ever lost a game due to a dead battery, you know how frustrating this can be. Recently, I lost a game that I was going to use for a photo for my Brick Breaker website, but lost it at almost 850,000 points.

The plan was to get to 1 million, then take a picture and post it here. I had close to 200 lives, and what I thought was plenty of battery life. Just as my battery started to blink, I plugged in the phone and thought everything would be fine. Not the case.

Zillions of wasted hours into this game, it was all gone. Zero points. F me hard.

The battery wasn’t even dead!

So, after some time off from the game, I’ve been playing again. Would-be 5 minute toilet runs are 30 minutes toilet runs, and after about 10 tries, I’ve broken through the first two rounds again. Currently at 67,240 points and 37 lives, I plan to take pictures at every 100,000 point level. The idea is to show people that it really can be done.

I’m not one of those 16 year old kids with Playstation fingers and lightning quick reflexes. I’m a 39 year old man who runs his own online business, and enjoys some peace away from the computer with a few minutes of solace on the patio or, err, bathroom. :)

So, what I’m saying is, anyone can beat Brickbreaker – anyone.

Sometimes it takes a bit of luck, to get a couple of favorable bounces, or hit one of those games when it’s giving out lots of Life capsules. Sometimes it’s not a bad idea to throw away a game that is starting out bad. Don’t worry, nobody is going to call you a quitter for giving up on a stupid Blackberry phone game.

Lesson learned: Keep the damn battery charged, and just keep trying.
